What’s going on with voting districts in the 2023 Chelsea elections?
Every 10 years (2010, 2020, 2030, etc.), the US Census is completed. States and cities need to update their district lines every 10 years to make sure that each district contains an equal number of people according to the new Census data.
The Chelsea City Council approved our new maps in November 2021. (You can read about the vote to approve the maps here, and about some councilors' attempt to change the new map here.) With the new map, each district contains about 5,000 residents.
This means that in 2023, some people will vote in different districts than they did in 2021.

So who will I be voting for?
Since the district lines changed, some residents will have a different district city councilor in 2024, even if their previous councilor gets reelected.
Here are the maps with district numbers included, as well as the elected officials for each district.
Where do I vote?
Some people will also have different polling locations (although most people's will stay the same).
You need to vote in the location that matches your new district.
The polling locations are:
District 1: Fire station on Sagamore Ave
Districts 2 & 3: St. Rose's School
Districts 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8: Williams School
